HOW TO REACH EL CUYO BY CAR

There are many rental cars in Cancun Airport and you can easily book a car online before you arrive, an economy car will work great all around El Cuyo.

If you decide to drive to El Cuyo with your own transportation we suggest driving during the daytime, driving at night is not easy and in some spots, there is no phone signal. There are many speed bumps, especially during the last part of the drive. Take it slow and easy. Do not rush and enjoy the driving and little ‘pueblos’ Fill your gas tank before starting the trip. There are very few gas stations along the road and only one in El Cuyo. Cash is king in El Cuyo. There are no ATMs or banks, the closest one is in Tizimin about 1 hour from El Cuyo.
Police checkpoints are stationed at the entrance/exit of reasonably sized towns. Checkpoints have speed bumps and you must slow down to pass through. Stop if requested. Ideally, have photocopies of your documents rather than originals to hand over if asked for them.
